Wilpattu National Park 🌳🐘

                                    '' Wilpattu ''– A Natural Heritage

Wilpattu National Park is the largest and oldest national park in Sri Lanka. It was declared a national park in the year 1938. This park can be introduced as a must-visit destination for nature lovers. The name “Wilpattu” is derived from the meaning “the forest with ten lakes.” However, more than a thousand natural lakes and reservoirs can be found within the park.

Wilpattu National Park spreads across the Puttalam, Anuradhapura, and Mannar districts. It is extremely rich in biodiversity, with a wide variety of plant and animal species. Due to this richness, the park has become a major attraction for both local and foreign tourists.

Wilpattu is especially famous for the Sri Lankan leopard. In addition, elephants, deer, sloth bears, reptiles, and more than 200 species of birds live within the park. Ancient ruins connected to Sri Lankan history can also be seen inside this forest.

At present, Wilpattu is gradually being destroyed due to human activities. Protecting the natural heritage of our country is our responsibility.
